City of LaSalle Finance Committee met Oct. 3.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairman Ptak Called the Meeting to order at 6:00pm

ROLL CALL 

Present: Chairman Ptak, Aldermen Thompson, Lavieri, Jeppson, Herndon 

Absent: NONE

Others Present: Others Present: Deputy Clerk Brent Bader, Finance Director John Duncan, Alderman Crane, Alderman Reynolds, Economic Development Director Curt Bedei, City Attorney James McPhedran, Fire Chief Jerry Janick, City Treasurer Virginia Kochanowski, Building Inspector Andy Bacidore

A quorum was present.

Moved by Alderman Herndon and seconded by Alderman Thompson to approve and place on file the minutes of the Finance Committee for September 19, 2022. Each and every aldermen has a copy.

Voice vote, all ayes. Motion carried.

Alderman Lavieri asked Finance Director Duncan about the Min/Max report and if the City went over this year. Duncan explained that the City did go over from the first year in 2016. There was a pretty decent size claim that just got settled from 2016.

Lavieri also asked about the $9,600 bill for traffic light repairs. Duncan stated that the City invoices those bills out and then will get a portion back if facing or sharing with a state highway.

Chairman Ptak began the discussion in regards to potential recommendation for financial participation of $8,000 toward the application to the Federal Rail Administration’s Rail Corridor Identification and Development Program for the Peoria to Chicago Region.

Moved by Alderman Laveiri and seconded by Alderman Jeppson to participate and contribute $8,000 toward the application to the Federal Rail Administration’s Rail Corridor Identification and Development Program for the Peoria to Chicago Region.

NAY: None Absent: None Abstain: None

MOTION CARRIED: 5-0 

Chairman Ptak mentioned how the council has not contributed to local charities or schools in the past and that it may be wise to not change precedence. This item failed to pass due to a lack of a motion. The committee members agreed to deny the request for a donation to LaSalle-Peru Christian School as part of its “Race for Education” fundraiser.

Finance Director Duncan had a couple items to bring up with the committee. He had prepared a revenue/expense report for the general fund, a current loss (min/max) report, and the financial audit. He would like to schedule a meeting to discuss these items more in depth. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, October 13 at 5pm.

Duncan also stated that Hyvee will be at the city council chambers, Wednesday, October 5 from 12:30-2 p.m. for the Flu Shot and COVID Booster shot.

There were no more questions or comments from the public.

Moved by Alderman Thompson and seconded by Alderman Herndon to adjourn the meeting.

Voice vote, all ayes. Motion carried.

Chairman Ptak adjourned the meeting at 6:15pm
