After earning her kudos for her performance on the track this past indoor season, Western Illinois' Paulina Wuestefeld was honored by the league for her performance in the classroom, being named to the 32-member women's Summit League Indoor Track and Field All Academic Team on Wednesday.
A total of 32 Summit League indoor track and field student-athletes, 15 men and 17 women, have been named to the 2022-23 Academic All-League Team as voted on by a panel of Faculty Athletic Representatives and Sports Information Directors from the League's member institutions. The honorees were chosen based on their academic and athletic performances during the indoor season.
Wuestefeld, a grad student from Duderstadt, Germany holds a 4.0 grade point average and is a Psychology major. She earned Summit League All Academic honors this past fall during cross country season.
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.
Nominations are brought forth by sports information directors from the league's eight institutions that carry track and field, and voting is conducted by both the SIDs and facility athletic representatives (FARs). Each team is made up of the 15 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
The Leathernecks begin the outdoor portion of the track and field season March 31 at the Joey Haines Invitational, hosted by Southeast Missouri.
