Q1 2022 Recap: 2 parolees from Lasalle County convicted of homicide set for release

There were two offenders convicted of homicide living in Lasalle County released on parole during the first quarter of 2022, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Illinois Valley Times.

The data shows both of the released offenders among the parolees were men. The median age of the parolees sentenced for homicide was 33. The younger parolee was a 31-year-old man sentenced in 2013, and the oldest was a 34-year-old man sentenced in 2016.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Russell Powell. He was convicted in 2013 when he was 21 years old. He is now 31.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
