City of Oglesby City Council met April 17

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

A regular meeting of the Oglesby City Council was held on Monday, April 17, 2023. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm by Mayor Dominic Rivara.

PRESENT: Mayor Dom Rivara, Commissioners Argubright, Cullinan, Curran and Eutis; Acting City Clerk, Patty Eichelkraut, and Attorney Pat Barry.

There was no public comment on agenda items.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY Curran, SECONDED by Eutis to approve the minutes from the April 3, 2023, meeting. AYES: Argubright, Cullinan, Curran, Eutis, Rivara. NAYS: None MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY Argubright, SECONDED by Curran to approve bills in the amount of $455,866.45. AYES: Argubright, Cullinan, Curran, Eutis, Rivara. NAYS: None MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY Curran, SECONDED by Eutis to appoint Becky Clinard City Clerk. AYES: Curran, Eutis, Rivara. ABSTAIN: Argubright NAYS: Cullinan MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY Curran, SECONDED by Eutis to appoint Becky Clinard the city’s IMRF agent. AYES: Curran, Eutis, Rivara ABSTAIN: Argubright NAYS: Cullinan MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY Eutis, SECONDED by Argubright to approve the Building Inspector’s First Quarter Building Permit Report in the amount of $55,141.00. AYES: Argubright, Cullinan, Curran, Eutis, Rivara. NAYS: None MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY Curran, SECONDED by Argubright to approve bids for the replacement of fire hydrants. AYES: Argubright, Cullinan, Curran, Eutis, Rivara. NAYS: None MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY Eutis, SECONDED by Argubright to approve ORDINANCE NO. 1218-042023, Approving the execution of a redevelopment agreement between the City of Oglesby and Rita Arteaga, DBA Mr. Salsa’s. The agreement is for $$2,887.50 AYES: Argubright, Cullinan, Curran, Eutis, Rivara. NAYS: None MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY Eutis, SECONDED by Argubright approve the request from the Oglesby Ambulance Department to sell Pork Chop Dinner tickets door-to-door. AYES: Argubright, Cullinan, Curran, Eutis, Rivara. NAYS: None MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY Curran, SECONDED by Eutis to approve a Solicitor’s Permit from Esmerelda Avila, HomeSmart Realty. Rivara told the council that Avilia had passed the required background check. AYES: Argubright, Cullinan, Curran, Eutis, Rivara. NAYS: None MOTION CARRIED.

Mayor Dom Rivara then presented a plaque to Glen Gerrard, recognizing his efforts to preserve and share Oglesby’s rich history through his Facebook page, Oglesby Days … Memories of life in Oglesby, Illinois. Gerrard received a round of applause from both the council and the crowd.

Commissioners’ Reports

  • Argubright thanked the residents for the opportunity to serve on the council and offered his best wishes to the incoming council members.
  • Cullinan also expressed his thanks to those who voted him in four years ago.
  • Curran announced that branch chipping would start the first week of May and noted that installation of fiber had started in the city.
  • Rivara read a letter from the city of Batavia expressing their appreciation for the help they received from Oglesby’s Electric Department after a recent storm. He then thanked the council and city employees for their efforts during his 12 years; 8 as a commissioner and most recently as Mayor.
