City of Peru Public Services Committee met June 12.

Alderman Payton made a motion to approve the Public Services Meeting Minutes of May 8, 2023. Alderman Tieman seconded the motion; motion carried.

POLICE

Police Chief Sarah Raymond initiated a discussion of ongoing parking issues around Washington Park during baseball games. Committee discussed parking restrictions on one side of the road on selected blocks. Committee recommended placing temporary parking signs to alleviate the situation.

Police Chief Sarah Raymond reported The Arukah Institute of Healing, in partnership with the Peru and Princeton police departments, has been awarded the Suicide Prevention First Responders grant through the Illinois Department of Human Services. The purpose of the grant is to improve wellness and reduce the risk of suicide for first responders and their family members in Bureau, Putnam, Marshall and La Salle counties by offering peer support training, lethal means training, anti-stigma campaigns and social work services. Chief Raymond stated she along with the Arukah staff and Princeton Police Chief Tom Kammerer will oversee the grant. Chief Raymond stated this opportunity is exciting for the local communities and that breaking the stigma surrounding trauma and suicide has always been a challenge. Chief Raymond stated the program will provide all of them the opportunity to seek services they need without having a stigma attached.

Chief Raymond stated the grant will enable the vital care and programs needed for all first responders to enhance, not only their careers, but also their home life.

PARKS & RECREATION

Committee discussed proposal from P&D sign for a new sign above the scoreboard at Washington Park in the amount of $12,000.00 (JA Happ field naming). Adam Thorson stated there will be an endof-season ceremony for Peru Little League Baseball and Softball on July 30th at 2pm and honor the outstanding career of J.A. Happ.

Mayor Kolowski initiated a discussion of the following facilities improvements:

• Complete redo of Baker Lake Path

• Restroom at Baker Lake (west side)

• Restroom at 28th Street Park
