City of Ottawa Special Events Committee met July 6

City of Ottawa Special Events Committee met July 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Meeting Called to Order: 5:40 pm

Present at the Meeting, Michael Dougherty, Dan Eilts, Robin Wilson, Jani Eichelkraut, Wayne Eichelkraut, Rich Crum

Absent were Candy Moore, Lucas Hennefent and Jim Reilly.

Guests:

Lloyd Chapman, Donna Reynolds and James Less

Public Comment:

Lloyd Chapman introduced himself and has interest in being on the Committee.

Request for Funding,

Family Music Night funding by Friends of Family Night headed by Diane Chapman and Judy Dagraedt.

The first request for funding was withdrawn and added to the Friendship Days weekend funding.

The Second funding request for a Family Music Night event to be held on Sunday, October 1st in Washington Park from 6-8pm for $450 to cover the cost of the sound system was approved with a motion by Dan, seconded by Jan

A request from the OVC for the event called Touch A Truck for $1000 for Family in the Park free event to cover cost for giveaways of school supplies to attendees. With a motion by Mike and seconded by Jan request was approved. Rich abstained.

A request for $1000 by the OVC for National Night Out event at the Ottawa pool on August 1st for giveaways such as beach balls and other items was approved with a motion by Jan, seconded by Robin. Rich abstained.

A request for funding for Smoketober Fest held on October 7th in the Jordan Block by OVC /Floret of $1000 to cover Porta Potties and rental of game equipment was approved with a motion by Mike and seconded by Jan. Rich abstained.

Another request for Smoketober Fest by OVC/Floret under Music in the streets program of up to $500 for a band called Double Shot was approved with a motion by Robin and seconded by Dan. Rich abstained.

A request by the LaSalle County Cruisers under Family in the Park funding of $1000 to cover the cost of the Batmobile at cruise night was approved after a motion by Dan and seconded by Rich, Mike abstained.

The minutes from the June 1St meeting were approved after a motion by Mike, seconded Robin.

Financial report:

It was discussed then approved after a motion by Mike, seconded by Jan.

New business:

A discussion on the Music in the streets funding to look at possible increase in funding in the future to help offset the rising cost of local band fees! No action was taken.

Old Business:

A discussion on Music in the Park ref to informing the public on Rainouts. Social Media sites S.E.C.G.is the only site that the cancellation was shared and the OVC said they would like to be notified so they can share the info as well.

The local radio stations and City Hall has nobody on duty to pass the info onto. We talked about taking down the banners in the park as soon as a decision was made to cancel. Rays Rockets will be rescheduled in Sept, Jim Reilly wasn’t present for a status update on Fall Festival Parade.

Meeting adjourned at 6:45pm
