La Salle County Board member Beth Findley-Smith | LaSalle County Jail
La Salle County Board member Beth Findley-Smith, 38, was arrested on a domestic battery charge and is being held in La Salle County Jail. She has been charged with domestic battery and is currently in La Salle County Jail without bond.
Findley-Smith was taken into custody and was expected to appear before a judge Aug. 21 for a hearing following her arrest in Peru, Texas, according to Shaw Local News Network. Peru police said the incident happened around 8:21 p.m. Aug. 19.
Findley-Smith was elected in November 2022 to represent LaSalle County’s 4th District. Findley-Smith also serves as the second vice chairman of the La Salle County Republican Central Committee and as an organizer for La Salle County YANA! She has previously held elected office as South Ottawa Township trustee, South Ottawa Township supervisor and precinct committeeperson, Shaw Local News Network reported.
Findley-Smith is an engineer who graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in nuclear engineering with a minor in mathematics from the University of Missouri-Rolla, her website reported.
“After a stint at the Department of Energy working in the health physics department at Sandia National Laboratory, Beth began work in a nuclear power plant in Illinois as a reactor engineer in 2007,” her website said.
Findley-Smith is also known as a volunteer to area organizations including the Ottawa Kiwanis Club, Meals on Wheels, and the YMCA. She attends Harvest Chapel in Sandwich, according to the website.
The LaSalle County Board’s District 4, represented by Findley-Smith, consists the precincts of Northville 2, Northville 3, Northville 4 and Northville 6.
Findley-Smith has a large presence on Facebook and last posted on her official Facebook page the day before her arrest.
