City of Peru Public Services Committee met Sept. 5.

ROLL CALL: Aldermen Edgcomb, Tieman and O’Sadnick present. Alderman Payton absent.
MINUTES
Alderman Tieman made a motion to approve the Public Services Meeting Minutes of August 21, 2023. Alderman O’Sadnick seconded the motion; motion carried.

CODE ENFORCEMENT
Alderman Edgcomb complimented the work performed by CSO Blake Frund. Eric Carls, Director of Engineering and Zoning concurred and noted CSO Frund has been a huge benefit to the city.
Committee discussed property maintenance violations at the property east of the Mr. Sparkle car wash.
POLICE
Police Chief Sarah Raymond initiated a discussion regarding the request from Circuit Breaker School requesting a full-time school resource officer (SRO to work 9 months of year). Chief Raymond stated the school would cover 75% of the salary with the city paying the other 25%. Chief Raymond noted the importance and value of the position but clear that another officer would need to be hired in replacement.
Alderman Edgcomb initiated a discussion regarding lateral transfers for potential new hires and potential incentives. Chief Raymond stated there is ongoing research.

Adam Thorson, Director of Parks, Recreation and Special Events reported on the National Fitness Campaign grant program opportunity.

Committee discussed attendance at the 2023 ICSC Central event in Chicago and referred a motion to approve the event at the next regular council meeting.
