City of Peru Public Services Committee met Oct. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

ROLL CALL: Aldermen Edgcomb, Payton, and O’Sadnick present. Alderman Tieman absent. Also present, Aldermen Lukosus, Moreno, and Mayor Kolowski.

MINUTES

Alderman Payton made a motion to approve the Public Services Meeting Minutes of October 2, 2023. Alderman Payton stated he spoke with Alderman Sapienza (not present) and Alderman Sapienza wanted the record to show that he approves of the minutes as presented but noted the minutes are not verbatim. Alderman O’Sadnick seconded the motion; motion carried.

PUBLIC COMMENT

There was a resident present who wanted an explanation of the rules/policy for parking across from someone’s driveway. Chief Raymond stated if the road is less than 30 feet wide parking across from a driveway is not permitted. The resident explained they have had multiple complaints and police visits. Chief Raymond reported she would review and advise.

PARKS & RECREATION

Adam Thorson, Director of Parks, Recreation and Special Events reported the Sunset Park playground install is ongoing.

Adam Thorson, Director of Parks, Recreation and Special Events reported on the upcoming Halloween activities scheduled for October 28th at Washington Park. Activities include: Sensory time at 12;30, 1-3 pm candy and fun, 2:30 pm the Hocus Pocus Hags.

Adam also reported on the upcoming, December 2nd, lighted Holiday parade, and noted he is working to finalize the route.

ADJOURNMENT

Alderman Payton made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Alderman O’Sadnick seconded the motion; motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 3:44 p.m.

Alderman Payton, Edgcomb, O’Sadnick, Lukosus, Moreno, and Mayor Kolowski remained in the council chamber and conducted informal discussions regarding Public Works Committee topics. 

• Landfill number 2 closure forthcoming.

• No update or timeline on IDOT inspection report for the slough bridge.

• Airport Grant applied for year 2024 has been submitted for the renovation of main terminal building, keep our fingers crossed.

• EPA inspection forthcoming at water plant and part of hydroelectric plant.

• Master Builder Way, hoping for concrete surface late November, this is new road to GFA factory, a major addition to our city and region.

• Ongoing street patching/repaving (10th and Plain, Shooting Park Rd near Dunkin Donuts) 

• Rt. 6 watermain project not to start until spring of 2024, waiting on IDOT permits.
