City of Peru Public Works Committee met Feb. 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

ROLL CALL: Chairman, Aldermen Lukosus, Sapienza, Ballard and Moreno present. 

Also present: Aldermen Payton, Tieman present, Aldermen Edgcomb, O’Sadnick absent and Mayor Kolowski.

MINUTES

Alderman Sapienza made a motion to approve the Public Works Committee Minutes of January 22, 2024. Alderman Moreno seconded the motion; motion carried.

IT REPORT

None

WATER & SEWER

Eric Carls, Director of Engineering and Zoning explained the request from Horizon House to run a new service line for water and new electric line. Mr. Carls stated that since they are a not-for-profit company, they will pay for only the cost and the departments will do the service for free. Kevin Minnick, Electric Operations Manager noted there will be a new transformer and some electrical cleanup.

BUILDING & GROUNDS

Eric Carls, Director of Engineering and Zoning reported on the $600,000 OSLAD grant the city was awarded and noted the project will be approximately $1.3 million.

Alderman Lukosus asked about plans for cameras for the ice house. IT Director Stephen Rounds reported they would be installed later this summer.

Alderman Payton asked for a timeline for running the fiber ad will who do it. Mr. Rounds stated that IT will map the route.

Corporate Counsel Scott Schweickert reported the real estate closing of 1839-1841 May Road was last week.

STREETS & ALLEY

PSM/Fire Chief Jeff King reported that Water Street and Main Street repairs are ongoing, in addition to potholes.

ELECTRIC

Alderman Lukosus made a motion to approve the purchase of the following padmount transformers from T&R Electric:

• 225 kva 277 / 480 volt 3 phase price $16,500 (Five Below)

• 225 kva 120 / 208 volt 3 phase price $15,500 (Popeyes)

• 300 kva 120 / 208 volt 3 phase price $19,500 (Horizon House)

Alderman Moreno seconded the motion. Clerk Bartley called the roll with Aldermen Lukosus, Sapienza, Ballard and Moreno voting aye; motion carried.

Kevin Minnick, Electric Department Operations Manager reported on of the Plank Road CAT generators will be leaving this week for repairs.

ENGINEERING

Eric Carls, Director of Engineering and Zoning reported on the following:

• General Street Fund

o Bid opening February 7th

• 5th and 10th Street Watermain Replacement

o Project/plans are being finalized and evaluating the bid feasibility based on timeline.

• Plank Road Improvements

o June bid date

OLD BUSINESS

PSM/Fire Chief Jeff King reported on a retirement announcement and wants to work on filling the existing vacancy and pending retirement. Committee was in favor.

CLOSED SESSION

Alderman Lukosus made a motion to go into closed session to discuss the purchase or lease of real property for the use of the public body is considered, including meetings held for the purpose of discussing whether a particular parcel should be acquired and discuss litigation “when an action against, affecting or on behalf of the particular public body has been filed and is pending before a court or administrative tribunal, or when the public body finds that an action is probable or imminent in which case the basis for the finding shall be recorded and entered into the minutes of the closed meeting. Alderman Ballard seconded the motion. Clerk Bartley called the roll with Aldermen Lukosus, Sapienza, Ballard and Moreno voting aye; motion carried.

Closed session began at 3:57 p.m.; ended at 4:23 p.m.

Alderman Moreno made a motion to re-open the meeting. Alderman Lukosus seconded the motion.

Clerk Bartley called the roll with Aldermen Lukosus, Sapienza, Ballard and Moreno present; motion carried.

ADJOURNMENT

Alderman Lukosus made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Alderman Ballard seconded the motion; motion carried.
