City of Ottawa Zoning Board of Appeals met June 20
Here are the minutes provided by the board:
Charlie Sheridan called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. in the Ottawa City Council Chambers.
Roll Call
Present: Charlie Sheridan Celeste Nielsen, Vince Kozsdiy, Bill Stevenson, and Melissa Hulse. Also present was city staff member Mat Stafford.
Meeting
The meeting was called to order by Charlie Sheridan at 7:00 p.m. It was moved by Vince and seconded by Bill that the minutes of the previous meeting be approved. The motion passed unanimously.
Applicant: Ryan Doll
Review: Ryan Doll requested three (3) variances to construct a 24x35 detached garage for his property at 328 E. Superior St. Also speaking on behalf of Mr. Doll was Nathan Eslinger, builder.
• 2 feet from the east property line, 3 feet from the west property line, and 2 feet from the north property line.
• Allow the cumulative square feet of all accessory structures to exceed 50% of the primary structure by 6%
• Allow exceedance of the building area requirement for the lot approximately 18%. Proposed development would be approximately 58%
Action: Bill Stevenson made a motion to recommend as written; Vince Kozsdiy seconded the motion, Charlie Sheridan was in favor. Celeste Nielsen and Melissa Hulse were against the recommendation.
Applicant: Thomas and Ginelle Shilkuski
Review: Thomas and Ginelle Shilkuski requested two (2) variances to construct a 38x64 detached garage for their property at 708 Arch St.
• Allow all accessory structures to exceed 50% of the primary structure by 36%.
• Allow for accessory structure to exceed the accessory structure height limit of 18 feet to be 21 feet
Action: Melissa Hulse made a motion to deny recommending the variances as written, Celeste Neilsen seconded the motion. Vince Kozsidy made motion to recommend as written, Bill Stevenson seconded the motion, Charlie Sheridan was in favor.
Having no further business in front of it, Melissa Hulse moved to adjourn the meeting; the motion was seconded by Celeste Nielsen and ended at 7:58 p.m.
