City of Marseilles City Council met Aug. 21

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

Official proceedings of the City Council of the City of Marseilles of the meeting of August 21, 2024.

The City Council of the City of Marseilles met in the City Chamber of City Hall at the hour of 6:00 P.M. on August 21, 2024.

Roll call showed the following present: Mayor Hollenbeck, Commissioner Kaminski, Small, Scheib, and Buckingham. Absent: none

Pledge of Allegiance was said.

Moved by Commissioner Kaminski seconded by Commissioner Buckingham that the minutes from the Council meeting of August 7, 2024 be approved as displayed and placed on file. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Small, Scheib, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None.

Scott Ford handed out packets of paperwork to select council members and people in the audience. He made complaints of the Mayor regarding confidential employee personnel information.

Moved by Commissioner Kaminski seconded by Commissioner Buckingham that the accounts payable for the first half of August in the amount of $246,579.55 be approved and a warrant be drawn on the City Treasury for the said amount. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Small, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: Commissioner Schieb.

Moved by Commissioner Kaminski seconded by Commissioner Buckingham that the payroll for the first half of August in the amount of $98,876.07 be approved and a warrant be drawn on the City Treasury for said amount. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Small, Scheib, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None.

Moved by Commissioner Small seconded by Commissioner Schieb that James Buckingham be promoted as police captain for the City of Marseilles. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Small, Schieb, Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None. Abstain Commissioner Buckingham.

Commissioner Small swore in new full time police officer Wesley Budach. Commissioner Small reminded the public Marseilles Elementary School started August 14 and to please watch for students walking to school and school bus signals.

Moved by Commissioner Schieb seconded by Commissioner Small that Resolution 2024-20, an improvement under the highway code be adopted. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Small, Scheib, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None.

Commissioner Schieb stated he would like to see a handicapped wheelchair swing at Broadway Park be installed.

Commissioner Buckingham wished everyone a safe Labor Day weekend. At the next council meeting he will have a pool report.

Eagle Scout William Stockman asked the council for their approval to install a Gaga Ball at Guthrie Park. Commissioner Buckingham signed off on the project.

Moved by Mayor Hollenbeck seconded by Commissioner Small that Resolution 2024-19, a resolution appointing Judi Johnson to the library board be adopted. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Small, Scheib, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None.

Mayor Hollenbeck said the community center is having a mum sale September 21.

Moved by Commissioner Small seconded by Commissioner Buckingham that the City Council adjourns. Ayes: Commissioner Kaminski, Small, Scheib, Buckingham, and Mayor Hollenbeck. Nays: None.
