FOIA Request Sent to City of Peru Regarding Unpaid Parking Violations on October 28, 2024

FOIA Request to City of Peru Regarding Unpaid Parking Violations on October 28, 2024.

In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Illinois Valley Times have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request was sent to the City of Peru in Illinois and pertains specifically to unpaid parking violations within the city.

The requested records include a list of all parking violations currently unpaid. We have asked for details such as the name of the offender, their address, the amount due, violation date, and total due. These details are crucial in our effort to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public.

As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals given our role in disseminating information.

We await a response from the City of Peru regarding this request. Our aim is always towards ensuring accountability and providing clear, accurate information about local government affairs.
