FOIA Request Sent to City Of LaSalle Finance Department Regarding City Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of LaSalle Finance Department Regarding City Sales Tax Records on October 31, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Illinois Valley Times have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request, sent to the City Of LaSalle Finance Department, seeks access to specific records pertaining to city sales tax from January 1, 2023, through October 31, 2024.

The requested records include a list of businesses that paid sales tax to the city during this period. The list should contain information about each business's name and type, as well as the amount of sales tax paid by each entity. Additionally, we have asked for the total amount of sales tax that the city collected within this same timeframe.

As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that given our role in disseminating information, we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await a response from the City Of LaSalle Finance Department and will continue to keep our readers informed about developments on this matter.
