FOIA Request Sent to City of Spring Valley Regarding Unpaid Parking Violations on October 28, 2024

FOIA Request to City of Spring Valley Regarding Unpaid Parking Violations on October 28, 2024.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local government affairs, we at the Illinois Valley Times have submitted a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the City of Spring Valley.

The request specifically seeks access to a list of all currently unpaid parking violations within the city. The information sought includes the name of the offender, their address, the amount due for each violation, the date when each violation occurred, and the total amount due from each offender.

Our role as a media organization involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records such as these is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.

Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under the provisions of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.

We look forward to working with the City of Spring Valley in ensuring that this important information is made available for public scrutiny.
