A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Princeton City Council on October 15, 2024. The request, made by us at Illinois Valley Times, seeks comprehensive details about the city council members.
We are specifically asking for a list of all council members with their names, titles, years of appointment, term lengths (2 or 4 years), and term expiry dates. This information is being sought under the provisions of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
In light of our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional while making this FOIA request. We await a positive response from the Princeton City Council as we continue our mission to inform and educate our readers about their local government's workings.
