A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of Mendota Finance Department on October 25, 2024. The request was made by us at the Illinois Valley Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically asked for records pertaining to sales tax collected from retailers from January 1, 204 until the present date. The requested data includes details such as the sales tax collected from retailers by month versus projected amounts, the number of active retail locations paying sales tax by month, and the names of each retailer along with their gross retail sales reported for each month.
We believe that access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
As always, we remain committed to keeping our readers informed about important financial matters affecting our community. We will continue to pursue this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
