FOIA Request Sent to City Of Princeton Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024

FOIA Request to City Of Princeton Finance Department Regarding Sales Tax Records on October 25, 2024. The Illinois Valley Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, has submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140).

The requested records include data on sales tax collected from retailers from January 1, 2024 till the present date. Specifically, we are seeking information in three main areas:

1. The amount of sales tax collected from retailers each month compared to projected figures.

2. The number of active retail locations paying sales tax each month.

3. The names of each retailer and their gross retail sales reported each month.

As a media organization, we are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.

We look forward to the cooperation of the City Of Princeton Finance Department in providing these important records.
