City of Peru Public Services Committee met Oct. 14

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

ROLL CALL: Aldermen Edgcomb, Payton, Tieman and O’Sadnick present.

MINUTES

Alderman O’Sadnick made a motion to approve the Public Services Committee Minutes of September 30, 2024. Alderman O’Sadnick seconded the motion; motion carried.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None

CODE ENFORCEMENT

Mayor Kolowski initiated a discussion regarding the Goodwill donation collection site. Committee recommended requiring Goodwill to erect a privacy fence.

POLICE

None

FIRE

Firefighter Matt McLaughlin presented a study by IAFF regarding staffing and focusing on the safety need for adding more full-time staffing. Alderman Edgcomb encouraged council members speak with the full-time firefighters. Reported on Safey Grant for May 2025. Complimented the paid-on-call members. PSM/Fire Chief Jeff King explained some of the challenges and limitations and safety.

PSM/Fire Chief King reported on the brush fire in Spring Valley and has enacted a burn ban.

PSM/Fire Chief King reported they used a significant amount of foam on the brush fine and the need to order more foam for the truck. Approximately $6200.00 that is not budgeted.

CEMETERY

PARKS & RECREATION

Adam Thorson, Director of Parks, Recreation and Special Events asked for clarification on the Veteran’s Schweickert fence. Committee was in favor.

Mr. Thorson stated there is no instillation date for 28th Street Park.

Mr. Thorson reported that Peru Federal is paying ($6,871.00) for a new scoreboard at Sunset Park; electric department will install.

Alderman Payton made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Alderman Tieman seconded the motion; motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 4:41 p.m.
