FOIA Request to City of Peru Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
In our continuous effort to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Illinois Valley Times have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Peru. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
Our request specifically asked for a list of all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, till the present date. We requested that this list include details such as the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address and contractor's name.
In addition to this, we also sought information about all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. Similar details were requested for these active permits as well.
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to such public records is essential for us. It enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities effectively. In light of our role in disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
