A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Marseilles regarding new and active residential and commercial building permits on October 30, 2024.
The request, made by us at Illinois Valley Times, sought detailed information about all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date. The specifics requested included the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address where the permit is applied for, and the contractor's name.
In addition to this, we also asked for a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status. The same fields as above were requested for these active permits.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional. This request is based on our commitment to provide thorough coverage of local government affairs.
We await a response from the City of Marseilles regarding this FOIA request. We will continue our efforts in promoting transparency and accountability within local government institutions through diligent reporting.
