City of LaSalle Street, Alleys and Traffic Committee met Oct. 28

Chairman Bacidore called the Meeting to order at 6:27 pm
ROLL CALL
Present: Chairman Bacidore, Ptak, Reynolds, Lavieri, Jeppson, Herndon, Crane
Absent: None
Others Present: Finance Director John Duncan, Economic Development Director Curt Bedei, City Attorney James McPhedran, City Engineer Brian Brown, Director of Public Works Kevin Fay, Fire Chief Jerry Janick, Police Chief Mike Smudzinski, City Treasurer Virginia Kochanowski, Alderman Thompson
A quorum was present.
Moved by Alderman Reynolds and seconded by Alderman Herndon to approve and place on file the minutes of the Streets, Alleys and Traffic Committee for October 14, 2024.
Voice vote, all ayes. Motion carried.
Discussion continued in regard to the Linden Avenue and Kilmer Road intersection from the previous meeting. Alderman Lavieri mentioned that Mrs. Layhew objected to cutting down lilacs due to their pre-dating of the city ordinance.
Moved by Alderman Ptak and seconded by Alderman Reynolds deny the request to add a stop sign for southbound traffic on Linden Avenue at the Kilmer Road intersection.

It was verified that no one from the public was here to speak in regard to this matter.
Moved by Alderman Lavieri and seconded by Alderman Reynolds to approve the request of a “NO Parking” on the west side of Linden Avenue from driveway nearest the Kilmer Road intersection to corner.

Sam Volpe, resident at 105 Gunn Ave., requested a no parking sign in the front of his house on Gunn Ave. due to traffic issues. He described the traffic problems, including backups of emergency vehicles and school buses.
It was suggested that a compromise of placing a no parking sign in front of Mr. Volpe’s house only.
Volpe’s neighbor, Christopher Garcia, who lives on Chartres St. Is oppose to the no parking sign due to limited parking spaces and inconvenience it would cause for his family. He explained the difficulty parking within his own driveway and the need for some street parking.
Moved by Alderman Crane and seconded by Alderman Herndon to approve the request for a “No Parking” sign from the neighbor’s driveway, next to 105 Gunn Ave., to the corner.

Breane Hicks shared her concerns about the condition of the 700 block of Sterling Street and suggests that Carus Chemical should contribute to its repair. City Engineer Brian Brown stated that the road repair is part of the federal aid program and that Carus Chemical’s contribution is not required but the city would appreciate it. The city does have plans to do redo this section in the next MFT fund.
Alderman Lavieri mentioned that there was a request for flashing red lights at the Pershing and Creve Couer intersection, which is agreed to be put on the agenda for discussion.
Alderman Bacidore mentioned that he is still concerned with the dangerous island at First Street and LaHarpe Street. He suggested doing a straw vote to address it immediately. Attorney Jim McPhedran stated that it should just be added to the Streets, Alleys, and Traffic Committee meeting and potential action can be taken then.
There were no other questions or comments from the public.
Moved by Alderman Reynolds and seconded by Alderman Ptak to adjourn the meeting.
Voice vote, all ayes. Motion carried.
Chairman Bacidore adjourned the meeting at 6:51 p.m.
