City of Peru Public Works Committee met Nov. 25

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

ROLL CALL: Chairman, Aldermen Lukosus, Sapienza and Moreno present. Alderman Ballard absent.

MINUTES

Alderman Moreno made a motion to approve the Public Works Committee Minutes of October 28, 2024. Alderman Sapienza seconded the motion; motion carried.

IT REPORT

None

WATER & SEWER

PSM/Fire Chief Jeff King reported on a water main leak on Peoria Street that involved a lead line that will require major repair. Alderman Sapienza asked about plans for repair of water main leak on Brewery Hill. Alderman Sapienza stated that he sympathizes with the neighborhood. Committee discussed patching options.

AIRPORT

Eric Carls, Director of Engineering and Zoning reported on the TIPS meeting submittal and noted we may have some bill money that can be used for remodeling. Mr. Carls noted funding was approved for a new lawn mower.

Mr. Carls reported the crack sealing and paving will be locally let.

Mr. Carls reported on the kickoff meeting for the Airport Layout Plan (ARP)

BUILDING & GROUNDS

Eric Carls, Director of Engineering and Zoning reported a ROW use license with Thyme Craft Kitchen.

STREETS & ALLEYS

Water Department Foreman Justin Nambo explained the chain of events for watermain and valve replacement on 38th Street. Mr. Nambo reported that old valves lending to bigger issues. Mr. Nambo stated they hired Illinois Valley Excavating to assist with the repairs due to the size of the excavation.

PSM/Chief King and Alderman Lukosus noted upcoming invoices will be large.

ELECTRIC

Electric Operations Manager Kevin Minnick reported on the following:

• Unit 3 and 4 (hydro) are back online

• Unit 1 (hydro) should be ready by late December or January

• 138KV Interconnect

○ Successfully completed the first approval process

• Generator 11 and 17 updates are underway

• Larger transformers are being tested

• Discussion of replacement transformers

○ 3750 transformer $185,000

○ 2500 transformer $160,000

• Working on spec book for service rules.

○ Handbook for contractors to ensure safe installs of electrical services, electric vehicles, charging stations, and solar installs

• Discussion of study to design an OT Network segregated from the city IT network

ENGINEERING

Eric Carls, Director of Engineering and Zoning provided the following updates:

• Rte. 6

○ Last water main tie in will be this week

■ Sewer separation to continue

• Storm sewer installation for Plank Road Widening project

• Working on long/short term capital project overview

OLD BUSINESS

Mayor Kolowski named the following to the pool committee:

• Alderman O’Sadnick-Chairman

• Alderman Moreno

• Director of Parks, Recreation and Special Events, Adam Thorson

• Former Friends for Peru Pool Member Sherry Mayszak

Alderman Sapienza asked what the purpose? Mayor Kolowski noted cost, location, and overall research noting the committee would be more balanced.

Alderman Payton asked Mayor Kolowski not to tell people the city has $3,000,000 in the Hotel/Motel Fund for a pool as those funds are committed to other projects.

PSM/Fire Chief King reported leaf pickup is caught up and future outings will be weather dependent.

Mr. Minnick provided an update on the EPA violation letter.

Alderman Moreno made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Alderman Sapienza seconded the motion; motion carried.
