FOIA Request to Lasalle County Il Elections Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our continued commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Illinois Valley Times have sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the Lasalle County Il Elections Division.
Our request specifically asks for a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. We have requested this information in an electronic format and it includes details such as the candidate's first, middle, and last names, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office, and party affiliation.
In addition to these details, we have also asked for contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
