City of Peru Public Services Committee met Feb. 3

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

ROLL CALL: Aldermen Edgcomb, Payton, Tieman, and O’Sadnick present.

MINUTES

Alderman Payton made a motion to approve the Public Services Committee Minutes of January 21, 2025. Alderman O’Sadnick seconded the motion; motion carried.

CODE ENFORCEMENT

None

POLICE

Police Chief Sarah Raymond again initiated a discussion regarding promoting a part-time officer to full-time status due to a pending retirement and an officer leaving on deployment. Chief Raymond stated it would be a proactive decision.

FIRE

PSM/Fire Chief Jeff King reported the safer grant and building grants are submitted.

LANDFILL

Reported 1848 deed verified

Reported on the Webberling sign donation

PARKS & RECREATION

Adam Thorson, Director of Parks, Recreation and Special Events reported on the following:

• Recommended holding off on Veteran’s Park pickleball court noting multiple courts in communities online now.

• Splash Pad maintenance

• LED Video Board

○ Committee discussed a make whole reciprocal deal

Alderman Tieman recommended re-directing funds to Splash Pad maintenance. Alderman Moreno concerned with Alderman Tieman. Alderman Edgcomb recommended pivoting with the splash pad maintenance but also earmarking funds for the future. Alderman Payton concerned. Alderman Payton recommended initiating a maintenance program for the splash pad long-term.

Alderman O’Sadnick reported on a pool committee meeting that include Eric Carls and Mike Kmetz (designed Ottawa pool). Alderman O’Sadnick reported he asked Mr. Kmetz to provide a quote.

Alderman O’Sadnick recommended spending interest earned from the pool fund CD’s (approx.. $9,000). Alderman O’Sadnick noted they reached out to two other local engineering firms who were not qualified/interested.

Alderman Payton made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Alderman O’Sadnick seconded the motion; motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 4:43 p.m.
