FOIA Request to City of Peru Regarding Newly Registered Businesses on May 7, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local government affairs, we at the Illinois Valley Times have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Peru. Our request seeks access to records detailing businesses registered with the city over the past week. Specifically, we are interested in obtaining information that includes the business name, business number, business type, business address, issued date, status, and registered agent name.
Our role as a media organization involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to these public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. By holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we aim to keep our community informed about local governmental activities.
We have also requested a fee waiver based on our status as media professionals dedicated to disseminating information for public benefit. Additionally, we are affiliated with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that assists media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental agencies through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
