City of LaSalle Finance Committee met Aug. 4

CALL TO ORDER

Alderman Lavieri called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

ROLL CALL

Present: Aldermen Demes, Reynolds, Lavieri, Jeppson, Herndon, and Crane

Excused Absences: Aldermen Thompson and Ptak

Others Present: Deputy Clerk Brent Bader, Economic Development Director Curt Bedei, Fire Chief Jerry Janick, City Engineer Brian Brown

A quorum was present.

Moved by Alderman Herndon and seconded by Alderman Reynolds to appoint Alderman Lavieri Chairman Pro-tem of the meeting.

MOTION CARRIED: 6-0-0

APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Moved by Alderman Reynolds and seconded by Alderman Herndon to approve the minutes of the Finance Committee meeting from the July 21, 2025, meeting.

Voice vote, all ayes. Motion carried.

DISCUSSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Fire Chief Jerry Janick explained the generators being discussed would replace existing generators which are low-end residential-grade generators that run on propane; the propane must be purchased annually. The replacement generators would be stand-alone diesel; transfer switches would be included. Chairman Pro-tem Lavieri asked if installation is included in the price: Janick replied that it is not. Alderman Demes asked if the current generators are serviceable; they are not.

Janick mentioned the generator for the civic water tower powers the SCADA system for the water supply, residential water meter collector, police and fire communication radios, and radio for Illinois Valley Regional Dispatch. Cannon Water Tower powers the same systems as well as the outdoor warning siren.

Moved by Alderman Demes and seconded by Alderman Reynolds to recommend to the Council to approve the purchase of emergency generators for the Civic and Cannon Water Towers from Cummins at a cost of $67,200 and related matters.
