Oglesby City Council approves non-binding 2017 budget

At a recent meeting, the Oglesby City Council approved a measure that sets a non-binding budget for fiscal 2017.

The Oglesby City Council is the legislative arm of the city government.

Below are the minutes from this meeting, as provided by the council.

A MEETING OF THE OGLESBY CITY COUNCIL WAS HELD ON MONDAY, MAY 16, 2016, AT CITY HALL. THE MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER AT 7:00 P.M.

PRESENT: COMMISSIONERS CAREY, PORTER, RIVARA, YBORRA, MAYOR FINLEY, ATTORNEY JAMES ANDREONI, AND CITY CLERK CLINARD.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY PORTER, SECONDED BY RIVARA to approve the meeting minutes from the April 26, 2016, special meeting. AYES: CAREY, PORTER, RIVARA, YBORRA, FINLEY. MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY PORTER, SECONDED BY RIVARA to approve the meeting minutes from the May 2, 2016, meeting. AYES: CAREY, PORTER, RIVARA, YBORRA, FINLEY. MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY RIVARA, SECONDED BY PORTER to table Ordinance No. 926-051616, the council felt that further discussion was needed on a couple of items. AYES: CAREY, PORTER, RIVARA, YBORRA, FINLEY. MOTION TABLED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY RIVARA, SECONDED BY CAREY to adopt Resolution No. Budget 051616, which sets a non-binding budget for Fiscal Year 17. AYES: CAREY, PORTER, RIVARA, YBORRA, FINLEY. MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY YBORRA, SECONDED BY CAREY to place the East End water main loop bids on file. The bids were opened earlier in the day. Commissioner Yborra said that the bids came in “quite a bit higher” than the engineer’s estimate of $49,353.50. Yborra said it may be necessary to hold the project over and combine it with another one to get a better price. AYES: CAREY, PORTER, RIVARA, YBORRA, FINLEY. MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY PORTER, SECONDED BY CAREY to table hiring Attorney Bruce Beal for representation in a potential IBEW grievance. AYES: CAREY, PORTER, RIVARA, YBORRA, FINLEY. MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY YBORRA, SECONDED BY PORTER to approve the purchase of a new pickup truck for the Parks Department. Mayor Finley told the council that the other truck had “died” and was beyond repair. AYES: CAREY, PORTER, YBORRA, FINLEY. NAYS; RIVARA. MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY PORTER, SECONDED BY CAREY to grant permission to the IVCC Men’s Tennis Team to hold a tag day on Saturday, May 21, from 8 a.m. to noon at the four corners. AYES: CAREY, PORTER, RIVARA, YBORRA, FINLEY. MOTION CARRIED.

A MOTION WAS MADE BY PORTER, SECONDED BY CAREY to adjourn at 7:21 p.m. AYES: CAREY, PORTER, RIVARA, FINLEY. MEETING ADJOURNED.
