Illinois Valley Community College's second annual Connie Dzierzynski Skerston Scholarship Fundraiser 5K Run/Walk will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, on the IVCC campus in Oglesby, according to the school's website.
Proceeds from the event go toward the scholarship fund. Skerstonworked in IVCC's Student Services office for 16 years and died in March 2015 at age 45 from a brain aneurysm. Approximately $32,000 has been raised for the fund so far.
Each participant will receive a T-shirt and refreshments. There also will be an untimed, 1½-mile “Walk in Her Steps” event.
The cost to enter is $25 through Oct. 1 and $30 after that date. Participants can pick up race packets early from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, by the IVCC main entrance.
Registration on the day of the race is from 8-9:20 a.m.
