State Rep. David Welter (R-Morris), who represents House District 75, recently spoke out about local controls and limiting government.
Welter is a strong advocate of reducing government spending, lowering taxes and implementing a balanced budget. To establish a new balanced budget, the Assembly must make structural changes to the budget that will allow spending cuts. Pension reform, changes in workers' compensation regulations, and reducing the onerous volume of business regulations will encourage new businesses and revenue while reducing government spending.

"As Grundy County Board chairman, we cut taxes, balanced our budget and lived within our means – all lessons that Springfield can learn from," Welter said. "As state representative, I will bring that experience to the Capitol and work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to restore growth and opportunity to our economy; make state government more efficient and accountable; and once again make Illinois a place where everyone can be proud to live, work and raise a family."
Welter was appointed to the District 75 House seat when his predecessor, John Anthony, resigned on June 17. Welter, who was sworn into office on July 15, faces Democratic candidate Martha Shugart in the Nov. 8 general election.
