The Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) women's basketball team was ranked No. 17 in the first National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II poll of the regular season, according to www.njcaa.org.
The Eagles, who had a 7-1 record as of Dec. 6, were not ranked in the preseason poll, which was released Oct. 25.
IVCC is the highest-ranked team that plays in the Arrowhead Conference.
Pima College was No. 1, followed by Kirkwood, Owens, Highland and Johnson County in the top five.
Statistically, the Eagles were in the top 10 nationally in four categories as of Dec. 6. IVCC was fourth in defensive rebounds per game, seventh both in 3-pointer percentage and assists per game, and eighth in total rebounds per game. Other high rankings include being 14th in free-throw percentage and 17th in free throws made per game.
