IVCC soccer, volleyball struggle out of the gate this fall

The Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) men’s soccer team got off to a rough start this season, dropping six of its first seven games.

 After back-to-back losses to open the season, IVCC claimed its first points with a 1-1 tie against Kankakee Community College. The Eagles then dropped four straight before notching a 6-5 victory over McHenry County College.

The Eagles went on another three-game losing streak before defeating Milwaukee Area Technical College for their second win. At the time of publishing, the team was 2-9-1 and in sixth place in NJCAA Region Four Division III.

The Eagles volleyball team also started with a losing streak, dropping four straight matches, including its first three in the KCC Invitational in Kankakee. Their first win came against Kankakee Community College, winning in straight sets.

IVCC lost its next two matches before defeating Moraine Community College 3-2. It then dropped four straight before beating the College of Lake County in three sets. The Eagles closed out September with an overall record of 8-16.

The Eagles men’s golf team started the year at the Highland 36 Golf Tournament in Freeport. IVCC took ninth place overall, and Carter Piercy led the way with a two-round total of 154. Black Hawk’s Austin Jump took first place with a two-day total of 149. Black Hawk also took the team title.

Piercy once again finished with the best round for IVCC at its second tournament, the Carl Sandburg Classic. He shot an 84, and the Eagles finished in 10th place. Black Hawk again took the title.

Most recently, IVCC hosted a two-day tournament that featured 21 team at Senica’s Deer Park Golf Club and Oak Ridge Golf Club. Piercy turned in the lowest individual score for IVCC, shooting an 82 in the first round and a 76 in the second. Hannibal-LaGrange University won the tourney with a total score of 588, and Black Hawk College took second with 591.The Eagles finished in 14th place with a score of 655.
