Osf St. Elizabeth Hospital issued the following announcement on June 8.
Volunteers from Compassionate Friends, OSF St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary, Master Gardeners Association, and OSF St. Francis Women in Philanthropy gathered Wednesday morning to take part in the 7th Annual Serenity Garden Spring Planting.
“The Serenity Garden is more than just a beautiful garden on the hospital campus – it is a place that reflects the Mission of OSF HealthCare. Our team of volunteer gardeners try to create a destination that is a tranquil respite for patients, families and staff,” said Sue Wanic, a retired RN from OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group and an Advanced Master Gardener.
Each year the volunteers provide something new to the garden. Last year, container gardens were added and made possible by the family of Marilyn Mayville, who passed away in December, 2015. She was a nurse at OSF HealthCare St. Francis for many years. This year, plant stakes are being added to identify plants, shrubs and trees in the garden.
“We are so grateful to our volunteers. They have a passion for what they do and have really taken ownership for the Serenity Garden and made it the beautiful resting area it is today.” said Jean Arvan, Director of Philanthropy at OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group.
Serenity Garden presentations and tours are available at request. You can call Jean Arvan at 906-786-5707 ext. 5516 or Sue Wanic, MG/SG Lead Gardner at 398-8122.
