Osf St. Elizabeth Hospital issued the following announcement on June 18.
OSF HealthCare Saint Luke Medical Center Laboratory has been awarded accreditation from the Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) based on results of a recent on-site inspection as part of the CAP’s Accreditation Programs.
Chris Downs, Laboratory Director and Dr. Jan N. Upalakalin, Laboratory Medical Director were advised of this national recognition and congratulated OSF HealthCare Saint Luke for the excellent patient experience provided. “OSF HealthCare Saint Luke Laboratory has an incredible team providing the highest level of quality, safety and service,” said Downs.
Jackie Kernan, President, upon learning of the laboratory’s accreditation, said “I am proud of our Laboratory Mission Partners for their hard work and diligence in achieving this important accreditation. We look forward to continuing to provide those we serve with comprehensive and quality care.”
The United States federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program. During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.
OSF HealthCare Saint Luke Laboratory is one of more than 8,000 CAP accredited facilities worldwide.
