Peru FD responds to 31 fires in 2017

Peru Fire Department responded to 107 calls in 2017 - 21.9 percent less than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Peru included 31 fires - 10 structure fires, nine vehicle fires and 12 other fires.

In all, the department saw $163,100 in fire loss - or about $5,261 per fire.

The department also received 76 false calls.

The Peru Fire Department had an annual budget of $20,650 in 2017.

The Peru Firefighters Pension Fund, which has four active employees and three retired or inactive employees, was $63,934 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,880 for every fire in 2016.
