Osf St. Elizabeth Hospital issued the following announcement on June 27.

OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group has awarded two honorees for the ‘Thank a Caregiver’ program. The program includes the international DAISY Award that recognizes the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care of nurses and the Sunflower Award, which recognizes non-nursing staff for their extraordinary care and compassion for patients. This quarter’s awards were given to Christina Reed, RN (DAISY Award) and Casey Sager, MD (Sunflower Award).

Christina, a registered nurse who began her career with OSF HealthCare last year works in the emergency department and is one of 45 nominees this quarter. “We truly appreciate the compassionate, merciful care that our nurses perform every day and the Daisy Award is one way to recognize these dedicated individuals,” said Joy Hopkins, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer of Patient Care Services at OSF St. Francis Hospital.

Christina was recognized as being a fantastic nurse. “She was kind, down to earth, attentive and understanding. In a situation like we were dealing with, she was everything you would want in a nurse a more,” said the patient she cared for, “I just wanted to send this to her in hopes she would receive recognition for being nothing less than wonderful”.

Casey Sager, MD, who joined the OSF St. Francis Women’s Center team four years ago was among 25 nominations for the Sunflower Award. One of Dr. Sager’s patients shared a heartfelt thank you for the special care that she was shown during her hospital stay and noted that Dr. Sager went above and beyond, providing care and emotional support even beyond discharge from the hospital. Another patient said, “Her warmth, professional skill, and understanding, and courage both in office and during my labor and delivery were exceptional. Her presence of faith, compassion, nurturing, kind coaching, and positive approach was an incredible power that was key to the successful delivery of my son. Unforgettable. Memorable. Priceless. So thankful for her care.”

Award ceremonies were held to celebrate with each of the honorees, their co-workers, managers and administrative team. One of Dr. Sager’s patients was also able to join the celebration and made it even more memorable.

“The work of our employees goes beyond providing health care to patients. They’re often providing comfort, compassion, and a listening ear. I see it each and every day and am proud to see the Sister’s Mission in action. The nominations from patients act as a great reminder that staff from all departments are making a positive impact on those we serve,” said Dave Lord, President of OSF St. Francis Hospital.
