La Salle-Peru Township High School District 120 students suspended 1,067 times in a single school year

La Salle-Peru Township High School District 120 reported 1,067 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 1,067 students during the year. That equates to 87.5 percent of the 1,220 students enrolled.

Of the 916 in-school suspensions, 580 were given to boys and 336 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 911 incidents. There were five incidents of violence without physical injury. For 585 incidents, students were suspended for 1-3 days.

Of the 151 out-of-school suspensions, 129 were given to boys and 22 were given to girls, all of whom were high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 81 incidents. There were 26 incidents of violence without physical injury. For 55 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
