Princeton Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on July 22.
Back to school doesn’t necessarily mean hitting the books to learn a new skill. Consider educating your tastebuds by teaming up with a group of wine enthusiasts to make wine! The Grape Escape and Room to Read are partnering to create a unique wine to foster fun and philanthropy. The local NJ Chapter of this global nonprofit organizes events to promote community and literacy.
The Grape Escape owner Ed Ventura and Room to Read volunteer Stephanie Clabby.
We invite you to join the Room to Read team to create our own blend. The process includes an initial tasting and various winemaking activities over a 10 month period from start to finish. Participants are welcome, but not required, to attend the Crush, Press, Rack, Bottling and Labeling sessions. Being involved in the process is an educational and enjoyable experience shared with like minded wine makers.
The Grape Escape uses advanced winemaking techniques found in the best wineries in the U.S. combined with Old World traditions. During the fall season, we source our grapes from the prestigious region of California: the Sierra Foothills, Sonoma County, Napa Valley as well as Washington and Oregon.
What goes well with wine? Food of course. The Grape Escape also offers various cooking and tasting events throughout the year, including Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegar Bottling and Hands On Mozzarella Making. The Grape Escape www.gograpes.com graciously sponsored the second edition of the NJ Chapter community cookbook Recipes Worth Reading. The cookbook features over 150 recipes from chefs and shops and locals to celebrate food and support literacy. The third edition of the cookbook recently went to press and is being sponsored by the Princeton based tech company Addteq.
Founded in 2000 on the belief that World Change Starts with Educated Children®, Room to Read’s innovative model focuses on deep, systemic transformation within schools in low-income communities during two time periods that are most critical in a child’s schooling: early primary school for literacy acquisition and secondary school for girls’ education. We work in collaboration with local communities, partner organizations, and governments to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children and ensure girls can complete secondary school with the skills necessary to negotiate key life decisions. Room to Read has benefited 16.8 million children across more than 37,000 communities in 16 countries. Learn more at www.roomtoread.org.
The initial tasting session is scheduled for the evening of August 21st at The Grape Escape in Dayton, NJ. Please contact Chapter Leader Nicole Smith for details: rtrnicolesmith@gmail.com
