Seneca Township High School District 160 Discipline Committee met March 4.

A meeting of the Discipline Committee was held on March 4, 2020 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting was called to order with the following members present: Ron Frye & Joe Johnson. Also present: Michelle Baudino, Dr. Jim Carlson, Mike Coughlin, Steve Haines, SRO Ken Sangston.
A. 1st semester Discipline Stats
Mr. Coughlin reviewed the 1st semester discipline stats from the 2019 - 2020 school year. Mr. Coughlin reviewed the average daily attendance along with the perfect attendance stats. He then reviewed both grade information and the discipline stats.
Sophomore class had the highest avg. daily attendance rate of 97.2%
Freshman class had the highest amount of students with perfect attendance 39 of 109.
The 3rd nine weeks of school ends on Friday, March 13th. Mr. Coughlin will be sharing the 3rd Nine week statistics with the discipline committee via e-mail after they are shared with board of education at the March meeting.
B. 2019-2020 Student Handbook
Mr. Coughlin stated that the 2020 - 2021 Student Handbook will be shared with the discipline committee members after final approval, in May, by the board of education. Mr. Coughlin acknowledged that Seneca High will continue using the IPA model handbook subscription, which is aligned with Board of Education PRESS Policies. Mr. Coughlin provided the committee the November 2019 supplements provided by Illinois Principals Association. The three items that were reviewed in greater detail was: MSH 6.30 Student Behavior, MSH 8.10 Search & Seizure and MSH 10.60 Related Service Logs.
C. Final Exam exemptions
Mr. Coughlin reviewed the importance of daily student attendance. Mr. Coughlin shared the positive impact that the final exam exemptions has had on overall student attendance sofar in the 19-20 school year. He briefly reviewed the different categories that allows students to particpate in exempting out of some final exams. The exemptions are based on attendance, grades and student behavior.
D. School Safety
SRO Sanston informed the committee on the school safety update. The school will be moving forward with ALICE approach to any/all safety issues at Seneca High School. SRO Sangston briefly spoke about the benefit of the video that was shared with all students for a greater understanding of their role in an active shooter situation. He also made the committee aware of the updated severe weather location(using the Girl's locker room area).This was valuable exercise in order to make improvements to our safety plan. Mr. Coughlin briefly spoke about the coming update to the camera system. Dr. Carlson spoke about the communication system that will link with phones that will save minutes in a lockdown situation.
E. Drug Testing Update.
Mr. Haines gave the discipline committee an update on the school random drug testing policy. He informed the committee that one student had tested positive so far this school year. He spoke about the programming available, at cost to parents, to all students that have tested positive. The educational program is
