Veteran state Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) reasons she has every reason for throwing her support behind Senate Bill 1326.

“The ability to vote in free and fair democratic elections is one of our country's greatest rights,”  Rezin said during a May 6 news conference held on the issue. “This legislation does not hinder that in any way. In fact, it improves upon the process for every Illinois voter. It ensures that they have better access to information regarding the process as well as providing them with consistency each and every time they vote.”

At its core, SB 1326 seeks to amend the election code while making technical changes in a section concerning expenses of conducting a primary election.

Rezin is convinced it’ll have an even bigger impact.

“Voters will have a clear understanding on how elections actually work and can have complete confidence and trust the process,” she said. “These reforms will modernize our state elections procedures in a common-sense way.”

Rezin began her speech by thanking newly elected state Sen. Sally Turner for being a part of the group of lawmakers to come up with the language for it.

“She and all of her county clerks did an incredible job in bringing together really good ideas that are represented in this bill and I'm excited to work with her on this bill,” she said. “They address several issues that have been discussed by election officials, advocates and voters. By standardizing the training of election judges, we will eliminate any confusion caused by differing procedures and help prevent any irregularities. These are ideas that every Illinoisan should support no matter what political party they're from or ideology that they belong to.”
