James Marter, a candidate for Illinois' 14th Congressional District, acknowledged the outcome of the election in a Facebook post dated November 12. He said, "I will never stop fighting for LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness: The American Ideals that make this country great."
"THANK YOU," said Marter, according to Facebook. "A heartfelt thank you to my family, staff, supporters, donors and voters who made such a difference in this race! I will never stop fighting for LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness: The American Ideals that make this country great. The Republican values of smaller government, greater freedom and common sense, helped us win the White House with PRESIDENT DDonald J. Trump the House of Representatives and the Senate - and expand our base!"
According to Marter's statement on Facebook, he emphasized ongoing challenges in Illinois. "Even so, there is much work to be done here in Illinois. We need to make sure that 'we the people' who call this our home, don't get left behind, dragged down by the anchors of big government and small representation," he wrote. Marter criticized his opponent Lauren Underwood's campaign strategy and expressed gratitude for the support he received despite being outspent.

Official results from the Illinois Secretary of State’s office are pending. Ballotpedia reports that Marter garnered 147,491 votes or 45.2% of the total votes cast. Incumbent Democrat Lauren Underwood received 178,878 votes, representing 54.8% of the total 326,369 votes cast for this race.
In March 2024, during the Republican primary, Marter secured a decisive victory with 24,828 votes or 79%, defeating challengers Charlie Kim and Krystal Dorey. Kim received 6,571 votes while Dorey obtained 14 write-in votes.
Marter has been a lifelong resident of Illinois and has lived in its 14th Congressional District for over two decades. His biography on his campaign website highlights his involvement in local politics since 2015. He serves as chair of the Kendall County Republicans and holds positions as a Trustee in the Oswego Library District and a deputy on the GOP State Central Committee for the district. Professionally, he has a background spanning 35 years in information technology and project management.
