Sen. Sue Rezin introduced Senate Resolution 342 on the Senate floor Tuesday, seeking assistance for working women.
SR0342 asks legislators and Gov. Pritzker to “invest the money received through the American Rescue Plan Act to encourage women to return to the workforce and to help stimulate the growth of women in the workforce, and particularly, urges the Child Care Funds be used to help fund child care and make it easily accessible for working mothers.”
“I know my resolution is still in assignments and this is the last day and I don't know how long we will be here,” Rezin commented. “I’m just asking that we use the additional revenue that we have in the budget to invest in childcare so we can get working women back to work. This is the last challenge to get working women back to work.”
According to the resolution, there are 35 million working mothers in the country, and that 50% of the American workforce pre-COVID pandemic were women, but 18% of women with children of all ages are considering leaving the workforce. Unemployment for women has reached nearly 16%.
Rezin was honored as a 2020 Women of Excellence by the National Foundation for Women Legislators.
