Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) took to Twitter on Nov. 11 to honor U.S. veterans on Veterans Day. 

Rezin has a track record for speaking out about pressing issues for veterans such as the COVID-19 outbreak in a veterans' home in LaSalle. The senator additionally serves on the Illinois Veterans Advisory committee.

"Today, we celebrate & give thanks for the brave men & women of our armed forces who have answered the call to serve & defend our nation," Rezin said in her tweet. "These American heroes have fought & sacrificed to preserve our freedoms & way of life. Our nation’s veterans deserve our respect & appreciation."

In other actions, last month Rezin spoke out against the practice of holding legislation until the veto session.

“Waiting to pass important legislation until the final hour is not a good functioning government and it's not how a good functioning government is supposed to work. Important legislation should be vetted and given proper time and the opportunity for the public to weigh in.”

She has also reminded her constituents that hunting will be allowed in Starved Rock and Matthiessen state parks during the upcoming deer hunting seasons, according to Illinois Valley Times.

"Hunters will be allowed at Starved Rock and Matthiessen state parks during the upcoming deer hunting seasons, which means there will be park closures,” Rezin said on Twitter.

She has also spoken out against the repeal of the Parental Notification of Abortion Act, according to Illinois Valley Times.

“Today I'm joined by my colleagues, and not just any colleagues, those of us standing here today are mothers and fathers, mothers of daughters, and once young girls ourselves,” Rezin said at an Oct. 19 press conference, according to the Illinois Valley Times. “We're standing up for the rights of parents all across the state of Illinois so that we can provide the support that our daughters need. There's been (a) strong indication that some Illinois legislators plan to use the veto session to advance legislation that would repeal the Parental Notice of Abortion Act.

“To be clear, the act doesn't require consent, just notification. So, what we're talking about is repealing the law that requires parents to be notified when their young 13- or 14-year-old daughter decides to have a medical procedure. This issue goes beyond the typical pro-life vs. pro-choice debate. We're way past just discussing our views on abortion. We are literally now discussing if a parent has a right to know about their child's pregnancy and abortion.”

Rezin has served as an Illinois Senator since 2010.
