Illinois State Rep. David Allen Welter (R-Morris) recently visited the Yorkville Chamber of Commerce to meet with local residents.
"I was the guest speaker at the Yorkville Area Chamber of Commerce Luncheon yesterday," Welter said in a recent Facebook post. "After giving an update on Springfield legislation, I was able to have a brief question and answer segment. Thank you to the Chamber for having me at this event and thanks to State Senator Sue Rezin for attending with me."
In January, Welter spoke of increased transparency and how it affected his constituents, a report from the Illinois Valley Times said. This was during committee discussion of a piece of legislation that focused on increasing diversity in clean-energy jobs by requiring more transparency in reporting minority-owned business participation in Illinois.
"I can tell you just from what I've seen it is increased, that transparency has increased participation and that's a good thing," he said during the Jan. 18 committee hearing.
Welter has voiced his lack of support for the budget that passed the General Assembly and was signed by Gov. JB Pritzker in April, a recent report from the Will County Gazette said.
“Illinois Democrats just passed a bloated and unsustainable budget while most of you were sleeping," Welter posted on Facebook, quoted by the Gazette. "The 3,400+ page amendment dropped at midnight The budget was put up for a vote at 5:30 a.m. and passed. Make no mistake, they do this in the middle of the night to avoid public scrutiny! This is not how you should govern. The people of Illinois deserve better! This budget is largely built on the federal bailout dollars that won’t be there next year. I voted NO.”
Welter also took a moment last March to observe National Vietnam War Veterans’ Day, a separate report from the Times said.
“Thank you to all of the Vietnam Veterans who served our nation. We are grateful and forever indebted. #WelcomeHome #VietnamWarVeteransDay,” Welter posted on Facebook, quoted by the Times.
In recognition of Vietnam War veterans, former President Donald J. Trump signed into law in 2017 the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act, establishing March 29 as Vietnam War Veterans Day.
