Minutes of the Regular City Council meeting held May 2, 2022.

PROCLAMATION 

Proclaiming Saturday, May 21, 2022 through Friday, May 27, 2022 as National Safe Boating Week.

RECONGNITION 

Recognizing Eagle Scout Cooper Vaske for his work on the Rotary Park Disc Golf Course Bridges and related matters.

DISCUSSION AND POTENTIAL ACTION ON THE FOLLOWING PETITIONS: 

Request from Joe Bornac of Starved Rock Runners to host the “Boo” Milby Memory 5K Run/Walk in La Salle beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, August 13 and related matters.

Request for a 2022 Raffle License from La Salle VFW Post 4468.

REPORTS OF CITY OFFICERS 

Building Inspector’s Report for April 2022 showing total fees collected of $6,076.37 with total value of construction of $1,359,100.00.

Treasurer’s Report for April 2022 showing total cash balances in La Salle State Bank of $12,136,607.87 and in Hometown National Bank of $5,857,111.02.

COMMUNICATIONS 

Illinois Department of Revenue report showing sales tax collected for February 2022 of $75,831.04 and Home Rules Sales Tax of $66,947.64 for a total of $142,778.68.

STANDING COMMITTEES 

Discussion and potential action on the recommendation of the Finance Committee regarding a request for a contribution towards the Better Fishing Association of Northern Illinois Kids’ Programs and related matters.

Discussion and potential action on the recommendation of the Finance Committee regarding the purchase of a 2022 Dodge Durango of $34,475 for the police department and related matters.

Discussion and potential action on the recommendation of the Streets, Alleys and Traffic Committee regarding adding a “Slow Children Playing” sign on Crosat Street between Fifth and Sixth streets.

Discussion and potential action on the recommendation of the Streets, Alleys and Traffic Committee regarding adding a “Parking for Residents Only” sign in front of 728 Fourth Street and related matters.

Discussion and potential action on the recommendation of the Streets, Alleys and Traffic Committee regarding adding a “No Parking to Curb” sign on the east side of the driveway at 1223 and related matters.

OLD BUSINESS 

Authorization of Pay Estimate #1 to Advanced Asphalt totaling $145,235.65 for work completed to date on 24th Street/Wenzel Road project and related matters.

Acceptance of the recommendation of the Board of the Fire and Police Commission to hire Miro Mesanovic to the position of patrol officer in the City of La Salle and related matters.

NEW BUSINESS 

DISCUSSION AND POTENTIAL ACTION ON THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL ORDINANCES/RESOLUTIONS: 

A Resolution requesting permission of the Illinois Department of Transportation to close off a portion of U.S. 6 during the City’s Celebrate La Salle 5K Run/Walk and related matters.

COMMENTS 

EXECUTIVE SESSION 

Regarding pending and/or potentially imminent litigation and related matters: Collective bargaining and related matters, and acquisition and/or sale of city real estate and related matters and the employment, discipline, appointment, performance and/or compensation of non-union and/or union personnel and related matters pursuant to the Open Meetings Act including 5-ILCS 120 Section 2(c)1-2,5,6,11 thereof.
