City of LaSalle Finance Committee met June 13

City of LaSalle Finance Committee met June 13.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Chairman Ptak called the Meeting to order at 6:03 p.m.

ROLL CALL

Present: Chairman Ptak, Lavieri, Herndon

Excused Absence: Alderman Jeppson

Others Present: Deputy Clerk Brent Bader, Alderman Reynolds, Alderman Bacidore, Alderman Crane, Fire Chief Jerry Janick, Treasurer Virginia Kochanowski

A quorum was present.

Moved by Alderman Lavieri and seconded by Alderman Herndon to approve and place on file the minutes of the Finance Committee for May 31, 2022. Each and every alderman has a copy.

Voice vote, all ayes. Motion carried.

Alderman Lavieri asked the committee if the Feece oil contract was a yearly contract. Chairman Ptak believed it to be a 3-year contract. Lavieri questioned how the price with Feece is established, if it fluctuated monthly or with the market. Finance Director was not available to answer that question.

Chief Janick explained the need for a new vehicle for the Fire Dept. The Dept is currently down a vehicle. They have a 2011 expedition that is still in very good condition but the department would like to replace that with a pickup truck. The truck would be better utilized when hauling contaminated gear and hoses. It will be licensed as an EMS vehicle and will be able to treat before the ambulance arrive. This has been appropriated in last year's ambulance budget. The company did honor last year's price.

Moved by Alderman Herndon and seconded by Alderman Lavieri to approve the purchase of purchase of 2022 Ram 1500 at $26,960 for the Fire Department.

AYE: Chairman Ptak, Aldermen Lavieri, Herndon

NAY: None

Absent: Alderman Jeppson Abstain: None

MOTION CARRIED: 3-0

Chairman Ptak noted that there will be a special finance meeting on Wednesday, June 29th at 6:00pm for the annual Budget Appropriations.

Alderman Herndon was contacted by someone from the Knights of Columbus about scholarships would like to do for students in the area. They were looking for a $500 donation, to give out two, $250 scholarships that truly need it to move onto some form of college.

Ptak not in favor of this donation. He felt the Knights of Columbus would be putting their name on the City’s money.

The committee did agree that if the city wanted to establish a scholarship, they will do it under the city’s name. They also agreed that it is a very difficult task to determine which candidates may be less fortunate than another.

Herndon just wanted to have the discussion before the committee. This topic died due to a lack of a motion.

There were no more questions or comments from the public.

Moved by Alderman Herndon and seconded by Alderman Lavieri to adjourn the meeting.

Voice vote, all ayes. Motion carried.

Chairman Ptak adjourned the meeting at 6:15 p.m.
