New Info Desk Up and Running in WIU Malpass Library

The Western Illinois University Leslie F. Malpass Library is in the midst of a transformation to ensure it provides the University and surrounding communities with the services and resources they need.

Prior to the start of the Fall 2022 semester, the Library, under the direction of Dean Hector Maymi-Sugranes (pronounced May-mee Sue-grah-knees), reconfigured the ground floor entrance of the library, setting up a new information desk area.

"A library is about information, resources, and we thought having a central information desk on the main entrance for not only assisting people with navigating the library, but the campus in general, would provide a new outreach service," he explained.

The information desk is open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, and is staffed by Library personnel, including full-time employees, student workers and graduate assistants.

In addition, a parking spot has been added in the lot south of the Library for those community members coming to campus to use the Library.

Additional plans are underway for the Malpass Library on the Macomb campus, Maymi-Sugranes said.

"We want to make sure the Library is user-friendly. We've listened to our students, and our University community and we're making changes that reflect the services they need, want and deserve," he added.

The Malpass Library on the Macomb campus is open from 8 a.m. to midnight Monday-Thursday; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays; noon-6 p.m. Saturdays; and 1 p.m.-midnight Sundays. For a complete list of hours, including specialty departments and libraries, visit wiu.edu/libraries/info/hours/.
