In a Sept. 17 Facebook post, Rep. Tom Demmer (R-Dixon) wrote about his visit to Little Village and its Mexican Independence Day Parade.

"A little rain can’t stop us! I was glad to join a huge crowd for the Mexican Independence Day parade in Little Village,” Demmer posted.

Little Village is a neighborhood in Chicago. It is known as the "Mexico of the Midwest."

Demmer is running for state treasurer. He announced his candidacy in January 2022.

"Today, Illinois voters spoke and elected me to be the Republican nominee for State Treasurer and I’m proud to earn their support," Demmer posted on Facebook after winning the Republican primary. "Illinois needs a fresh start! During Mike Frerichs’ 15 years in Springfield, he’s fallen for just about everything – higher taxes, more spending, he’s even supported a tax on retirement income while turning a blind eye to the corruption in his own party. I’m running for State Treasurer because Illinois families need a fiscal watchdog on their side to clean up Springfield and stop the tax hikes."
