Sen. Sue Rezin (R-Morris) recently shared her participation in the Veterans Parade in Utica.

“Riding on the back of a Harley in the Veterans Parade was the best way to spend my Sunday,” she posted on Facebook Sunday. “Thanks to our Veterans and Starve Rock ABATE.”

The parade in Utica isn't the only way that Rezin has honored veterans lately. She has also put out the word that Illinois Senate Republicans were looking for veterans and families of veterans to share their stories and images.

On her website, Rezin shared a way for people to get involved: To showcase the legacy of our nation’s brave men and women, Rezin is encouraging residents throughout the state to submit a photograph and written story of any veteran, so it can be displayed. Families who would like to participate in this year’s display should submit a photo and written story (max: 250 words) with the following information: name, military branch (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, National Guard, Navy) and conflict served (Afghanistan, Iraq, September 11, Gulf War, Vietnam, Korea, WWII, WWI, Peacetime, other).

Military photos are preferred but not necessary. If possible, please email submissions to veteransday@sgop.ilga.gov by Nov. 10, 2022. Submissions will be accepted through Nov. 28, and the display will be updated daily to include new entries. Submissions can also be mailed to Veterans Day Wall, 108 Statehouse, Springfield, IL 62706. For questions, please call (217) 782-0956.

Rezin was appointed to the state senate on Dec. 14, 2010, and has continually represented the 38th Legislative District since then. She was chosen as Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate Republican Caucus in 2021.

She has also recently touted the benefits of the Great American Rail Trail. The I & M Canal and the Hennepin Canal may get a biking trail connecting the two canals. “Our goal is to create a 16-mile trail that connects the I & M Canal and the Hennepin Canal Parkway,” Rezin wrote on Facebook. “This project will allow everyone to bike thru Illinois on a connected, safe trail. Indiana is working on a similar project.”
