Depue Unit School District 103 Board met Aug. 22

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

President, Jason Hayes called the Regular Meeting of the Board of Education to order at 6:01 p.m. August 22, 2022 in the school library

Members Present at Roll Call: Marisela Cervantes, Jason Hayes, Alex Jaramillo, Cynthia Salazar. Since four members are present, a quorum does exist. It is legal to conduct the business of the District.

Staff present: Dr. Brandi Anderson-Maier - Superintendent, Mrs. Susan Bruner- Ill/HS principal, Mrs. Tari Jansen - Elementary principal, Mrs. Vicki Gilbert - District Secretary, Mr. Barry Gilstrap - HS teacher.

Visitors: Tina Harrison and Jared Harrison. Multiple staff members attended via zoom video conference.

CONSENT AGENDA 

Motion by Cervantes, seconded by Salazar to approve:

Approval of regular session minutes and executive minutes from July 2022

Approval of monthly bills

Approval of the additional bills

Approval of the balance sheet dated July 2022

Approval the destruction of closed session audio tapes after 18 months

RECOGNITION OF VISITORS 

Tina Harrison and Jared Harrison addressed the Board regarding the blacktop/basketball courts and behavior of children playing basketball during non-school hours. The Board discussed actions to take to resolve the issues.

ADMINISTRATION REPORTS 

Principals' report

Mrs. Jansen & Mrs. Bruner discussed the following topics:

• Enrollment numbers for 2022-2023 school year

• School Improvement plan

• Online professional development has been offered to all teachers.

• IL report card

• Beginning of the school year institute days included the following training: Positive Interventions and Supports (PBIS) full day training, ongoing assessments in priority standards, school improvement plan overview, SEL curriculum trainings - Second Step, Character Strong. _

• Early release days in-service trainings: ACCESS Proctor Training K-8, TPT school access training, 504 assessments, school improvement - Evaluwise/ Student learning goals, and curriculum alignment.

Superintendent's Report . .

Dr. Brandi Anderson-Maier discussed the following topics:

• Monthly financial report

• Summer maintenance report

• Presentation of HV AC and electrical upgrade options by Jake Been, Healy Bender Patton & Been. 

• Presentation of the FY23 Tentative Budget. Budget hearing set for September 21, 2022.

• Return to learn plan FY23

• Use of ESSER III Fund Plan. Gave an opportunity for public comment.

• Threat Assessment plan

• Board goal setting

• Joint Annual Conference in Chicago in November.

• Board mandated trainings.

• Marching band instruments.

• District van to be put up for bid.

EXECUTIVE SESSION 

Motion by Cervantes, seconded by Salazar, to enter into executive session at 7:59 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees, collective bargaining matters, student discipline cases, placement of students and other matters relating to individual students and personnel.

Approve the resignations of Kara Kozlowski as JH math teacher. Brittany Day as speech language pathologist, Sandra Perez as paraprofessional, and Sandra Nunez as bilingual teacher effective at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.

Approve the employment of Tony Blanco, Ben Atkinson, Kevin Alleman as substitutes, Nicki Bulter as Pre-K emergency licensure, Karen Becket as JH math teacher, Jennifer Torri as contracted learning loss coordinator 1 dav per week. and Yasmin Caracheo as paraprofessional. Motion by Hayes, seconded by Cervantes
